Title: The Up Fast Races Past
Location: Ingatestone, Essex
Camera: Canon Ixus 850IS compact
Notes: A reminder of how the countryside used to flash past on my way to and from London every day. Nice to see the other viewpoint now I'm freelance.

Once upon a time, many years ago, in another incarnation I worked on the railways. Among my jobs was being a member of a gang that installed and repaired these crossings. My task was quite simple: I was to stand between the tracks and call out when a train was in sight. I had say whether it was on the "up" track or the "down" and for the life of me, I still can't remember which is which......
Lol - can't imagine you as a navvy, John!
To put you out of your misery, "Up" is always towards London, no matter waht direction it is, "Down" is always away from London. Don't ask me why!
